How to Resolve the “Inaccessible Boot Device” Error on Your PC – Your PC Encountered an Issue and Needs to Restart

Hi guys, this is Jude from Easy Tech’s. In this tutorial, I’ll be demonstrating three possible ways to fix the Windows 10 startup error that says your PC has run into a problem and needs to restart. This error message typically comes with a stop code such as 0xc000021a or an error code that says “inaccessible boot device.”

The first step is to check for any loose hardware connections, especially if you have experienced any major vibrations. If your error message suggests a loose hard disk connector, you should check that first. Additionally, make sure all hardware components attached to your computer are properly connected.

If your error message includes a stop code 0xc000021a, the second fix in this video involves using the Windows setup repair tool. You will need a bootable USB stick with Windows 10 installation files to proceed with this solution.

Follow the steps in the video to create a Windows 10 USB installation media and then use the repair tool to fix the problem automatically. If successful, you should be able to log back into your computer without any errors.

The third approach involves using the registry backup command “regback” to replace your registry configuration with the last known good configuration. Follow the steps in the video to back up your current registry and then run the regback command to restore the configuration.

I hope one of these solutions helps you resolve the Windows 10 startup error. If you found this video helpful, please give it a thumbs up and share it with others. Don’t forget to subscribe for more tech support videos. Thanks for watching!

How to Fix "Your PC Ran Into a Problem and Needs to Restart – Inaccessible Boot Device"

If you’ve encountered the dreaded blue screen error message on your Windows PC saying "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart – Inaccessible Boot Device", don’t panic. This issue is a common one among Windows users, but it can be fixed with a few troubleshooting steps. In this article, we’ll walk you through some of the most effective methods to resolve this error and get your PC back up and running smoothly.

Check and Reset Your BIOS Settings

One of the first things you should do when encountering the "Inaccessible Boot Device" error is to check and reset your BIOS settings. Sometimes, incorrect BIOS settings can cause this problem. To access your BIOS, restart your computer and press the appropriate key (usually Del, F2, or F10) to enter BIOS setup. Once in the BIOS, check if your hard drive is being recognized correctly. If not, try resetting your BIOS settings to default.

    Run Startup Repair

Another way to fix the "Inaccessible Boot Device" error is to run the built-in Startup Repair tool on Windows. To do this, you’ll need to boot your computer from a Windows installation disc or USB drive. Once you’ve booted into the Windows Recovery Environment, select "Troubleshoot" and then "Advanced options." From there, choose "Startup Repair" and follow the on-screen instructions to let Windows attempt to fix the boot issues.

    Check Disk for Errors

If the above methods don’t work, you can try checking your disk for errors using the built-in Windows CHKDSK utility. To do this, open a Command Prompt with administrative privileges and type the command "chkdsk /f /r C:" (replace "C" with the drive letter of your system partition). This command will scan your disk for errors and attempt to fix them. Reboot your PC after the scan is complete to see if the issue is resolved.

Update or Roll Back Device Drivers

Outdated or incompatible device drivers can sometimes cause the "Inaccessible Boot Device" error. To fix this, you can try updating your device drivers to the latest version. You can do this manually through Device Manager or use third-party driver update software. If updating the drivers doesn’t work, you can also try rolling back the drivers to a previous version to see if that resolves the issue.

    Perform System Restore

If none of the above methods work, you can try performing a System Restore to revert your PC to a previous state where it was functioning properly. To do this, boot into the Windows Recovery Environment and select "System Restore" from the Advanced options menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to choose a restore point and let Windows restore your system files and settings. This may help resolve the "Inaccessible Boot Device" error.

In conclusion, the "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart – Inaccessible Boot Device" error can be frustrating, but it’s usually fixable with the right troubleshooting steps. By checking and resetting your BIOS settings, running Startup Repair, checking disk for errors, updating or rolling back device drivers, and performing a System Restore, you can hopefully get your PC back to a healthy state. If the issue persists, you may need to seek further assistance from a professional technician.

    1. Check for Disk Errors

If your PC encounters the error message “Inaccessible Boot Device,” you may have disk errors that need to be fixed. To address this issue, you can run a disk check using the Command Prompt. First, restart your computer and access the Advanced Startup Options menu. From there, select Command Prompt and type in “chkdsk /f /r” to initiate a disk check. This process will scan and repair any errors on your hard drive that may be causing the inaccessible boot device error.

    2. Update Device Drivers

Another common reason for the “Inaccessible Boot Device” error is outdated or corrupted device drivers. To resolve this issue, you can update your device drivers using the Device Manager. Simply right-click on the Start menu, select Device Manager, and locate the drivers that need updating. Right-click on each driver and select the option to update it. This will ensure that your system has the latest and most compatible drivers, potentially fixing the inaccessible boot device problem.

If you are experiencing WiFi connection issues with a red X on the WiFi icon, resetting the TCP/IP stack can help resolve the problem. To do this, open the command prompt as an administrator and type “netsh int ip reset” followed by pressing Enter. This will reset the TCP/IP stack, which can often fix network connectivity issues in Windows 10, 8, or 7.

    3. Disable Proxy Settings

  • How to Solve “Access is Denied” Issue When Fixing Boot Configuration with Bootrec /fixboot (2 Solutions)

How to Solve “Access is Denied” Issue When Fixing Boot Configuration with Bootrec /fixboot (2 Solutions)

    Introduction

Hi guys, this is Jude from Easy Techs. In this video, I’ll be showing you two possible ways to fix the problem of “access is denied” when trying to run the bootrec fix boot command in Windows. This command is typically used to resolve various startup issues you may encounter in Windows, such as failure to start, hardware or software changes causing problems, blue screen of death, missing boot device, etc. The bootrec command rebuilds the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) file when it is missing, corrupt, or improperly configured, making it an important tool for troubleshooting Windows startup issues.

    Recreating EFI Directory Structure

The first method is to recreate the EFI directory structure and reconfigure the boot file using the BCD boot command. To do this:
    1. Open the terminal and type “diskpart” followed by “list disk” to display all disks attached to your PC.
    2. Select the disk with your Windows files (usually Disk 0) and then select the volume with the system reserved partition.
    3. Assign a drive letter to this volume, create the EFI directory structure, and run the bootrec fixboot command.
    4. Finally, run the BCD boot command to complete the process.

Using an Earlier Windows 10 Build

If the first method does not work, you can try using an earlier Windows 10 build installation media, such as the 1703 build, to avoid the “access is denied” error. This process involves configuring your USB with the 1703 build and using it to run the bootrec command without errors.

    To do this:
    1. Format the USB stick and mark it as active using the Disk Management tool.
    2. Download the Windows 10 build 1703 installation files and copy them to your USB stick.
    3. You can now use this USB to repair any version of Windows without encountering the “access is denied” error.

Remember to follow the instructions in the video for detailed steps on how to perform these methods. If you found this video helpful, give it a thumbs up, share it with others, and subscribe to our channel for more tech support videos. Thank you for watching!

How to Resolve Bootrec /fixboot Access is Denied Issue During Fix Boot Configuration

However, there are a couple of methods you can try to resolve this issue and successfully repair your system’s boot configuration. In this guide, we will walk you through two possible fixes for the bootrec /fixboot access denied problem.

Method 1: Run Command Prompt as Administrator

One of the most common reasons for the "Access is Denied" error when using the bootrec /fixboot command is that you do not have the necessary administrative permissions. To fix this issue, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Command Prompt as Administrator

    • Press the Windows key and type "cmd" in the search bar.
    • Right-click on Command Prompt in the search results and select "Run as administrator."

Step 2: Execute the bootrec /fixboot Command

    • In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
      bootrec /fixboot

Step 3: Check the Boot Configuration

    • After the command has been executed successfully, restart your computer and check if the boot configuration issue has been resolved.

Method 2: Use Diskpart to Assign a Drive Letter

If running Command Prompt as administrator does not solve the issue, you can try assigning a drive letter to the system partition using Diskpart. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Command Prompt as Administrator

    • Follow the same steps as in Method 1 to open Command Prompt with administrative privileges.

    Step 2: Launch Diskpart

    • In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
      diskpart

Step 3: Assign a Drive Letter

    • Type the following commands in Diskpart to assign a drive letter to the system partition:
      list volume
select volume X (Replace X with the volume number of the system partition)
      assign letter=Z
      exit

Step 4: Run the bootrec /fixboot Command

    • Now, go back to Command Prompt and execute the bootrec /fixboot command again.

By following these two methods, you should be able to resolve the "Access is Denied" issue when using the bootrec /fixboot command to fix boot configuration problems in Windows. If the problem persists, it may indicate a more serious underlying issue with your system that requires further troubleshooting.

Issue with Bootrec /fixboot Access Denied

When trying to fix boot configuration issues using the command prompt, you may encounter an error stating “Access is Denied” when using the command “bootrec /fixboot”. This can be frustrating as it prevents you from successfully repairing your boot configuration. However, there are a couple of fixes you can try to resolve this issue and successfully repair your boot configuration.

Fixes for Bootrec /fixboot Access Denied

To address the “Access is Denied” error when using “bootrec /fixboot”, you can try running the command prompt as an administrator. This elevated level of access may allow you to successfully run the command and fix your boot configuration issues. Alternatively, you can also try using the Diskpart utility to manually assign a drive letter to the system partition before running the “bootrec /fixboot” command. This can help bypass the access denied error and successfully repair your boot configuration.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, encountering the “Access is Denied” error when using “bootrec /fixboot” to fix boot configuration issues can be frustrating. However, by running the command prompt as an administrator or using the Diskpart utility to assign a drive letter, you can work around this error and successfully repair your boot configuration. By following these two fixes, you can effectively troubleshoot and resolve boot configuration problems on your Windows system.
